Her dissertation, “Claiming the Canal: Performances of Race, Labor, and Citizenship in Panama, 1904-1999,” explores the history of US-Panama relations before and after decolonization of the Panama Canal Zone through a site-specific analysis of theatre and performance in and around the former Canal Zone. Katherine’s work has been published in The Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Ethnic Studies and E-misférica, the digital journal of the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics (http://hemisphericinstitute.org/hemi/en/e-misferica). Lei: Art from Heaven to Earth
The "Lei: Art from Heaven to Earth" brand comes from the designer's name - Leilani, which means "flower from heaven" in Hawaiian dialect. Her designs are inspired from the natural beauty that surrounds our daily life. Each of her unique pieces are bearers of art, product of hours and days of crafting. For the hand painted pendant, Leilani turns nature's elements, such as: sea shells, exotic seeds, wood and others, into exclusive jewelry, accessories and decorative pieces. She compliments them with an original combination of weaves, semi precious stones, crystals, fresh water pearls and different materials, all hand crafted.
